(The thieving of sleep apnea)
Dark demons haunt the night
Freed by sleep impaired
To steal from nature’s gift
Of health and healing repose
The good workings
Of the day’s delights
No joy at first light
No eye attentive and bright
No energy to last the journey
No memory that will hold
Its image beyond the moment
The pleasures of life’s unfolding
Hidden in a sea of irritability
The longing for loving intimacy
Buried in a desert of lost desire
Come back good sleep
Banish the demons dark and dismal
Give me back a life
Full of living.
